106th Street at U.S. 31 now open, ramp closure scheduled

December 19, 2025

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces the reopening of eastbound 106th Street from Illinois Street to U.S. 31 on Friday, December 19, before afternoon rush hour.

This opening marks a milestone for Level Up 31, a project to alleviate congestion and improve safety within the heavily traveled I-465/U.S. 31 interchange and surrounding area.

Additionally, from 9 to 11 p.m. on Friday, December 19, motorists should prepare for a closure on the I-465 eastbound ramp to southbound Meridian Street. The far-right lane of eastbound I-465 will also be restricted to provide space between traffic and the operation.

The southbound U.S. 31 ramp to 106th Street remains closed and is expected to reopen by spring 2026. Motorists are advised to be mindful of traffic barrels and local access restrictions in the two-mile improvement area.

The speed limit remains 45 MPH along I-465 and U.S. 31 in the construction zone while activity is occurring. Drivers may encounter delays during peak travel times in Indianapolis and Carmel.

The four-phase project is scheduled to conclude in late 2027. Visit LevelUp31.com to use our interactive map and take an in-depth look at the future design of Level Up 31.
