Overnight lane and ramp closures planned at I-465 and U.S. 31 interchange

September 28, 2026

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane restrictions and overnight ramp closures are planned at the I-465 and U.S. 31 interchange starting this week.

Closures are necessary to allow crews to place steel bridge-support beams for a new, widened ramp carrying two lanes entering U.S. northbound from I-465.

Nightly closures on I-465 at the U.S. 31 interchange are expected to continue through October, weather permitting.

The westbound I-465 ramp to U.S. 31/Meridian Street will close from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday, September 28 and Tuesday, September 29.

During these closures, the detour for the westbound I-465 exit ramp to northbound and southbound U.S. 31/Meridian Street is for traffic to continue on I-465 westbound, exit at the U.S. 421/Michigan Road interchange, re-enter I-465 EB, exit at the U.S. 31 interchange.

Beginning on or after Wednesday, September 30 through Saturday, October 3, lane restrictions and rolling slowdowns are planned in both directions on I-465 nightly from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Additionally, the northbound Meridian Street ramp to eastbound I-465 will close from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 1 and Friday, October 2.

During these nightly closures, the official detour for northbound Meridian Street ramp to eastbound I-465 is to take the northbound Meridian Street ramp to I-465 westbound, exit at the U.S. 421/Michigan Road interchange and re-enter I-465 eastbound.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use extra caution in the work zones.

All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change. All current traffic impacts will be updated on the homepage of LevelUp31.com.
